Successful TIHE Graduation at Queen Salote Memorial Hall, Tonga

Dr Julia Hennessy – President of Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS) was invited to attend the graduation of Tonga Institute of Higher Education (TIHE) in the Kingdom of Tonga.

I was privileged to be invited to the graduation, in the Kingdom of Tonga, of over 400 students from The Tongan Institute of Higher Education (TIHE) and Tongan Institute of Education. Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u was the Royal Guest of Honour. Dignitaries included Lady Vaea, the Right Rev. Bishop ‘Afa Vaka, Minister of Education and Mr ClaudeTupou, Chief Education Officer.  Deans and staff from the two educational institutes were there to support and congratulate the graduates on their achievements.

Six students were awarded the top of class for the secondary school entrance examination.  The audience were entertained throughout the ceremony by the Tongan Police Band and the Tu’atakilangi Choir.

Auckland Institute of Studies shares a special partnership with TIHE so it was rewarding to be in Tonga when Mr Semisi Mavaetangi had his Bachelor of Information Technology degree confirmed at the ceremony.  Semisi completed his bachelor’s qualification at Auckland Institute of Studies before returning home to Tonga.
