Press Release: Tonga Institute of Higher Education (TIHE) and the Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS) pathway
Wednesday 6th December 2017
Semisi Palaki Mavaetangi recently graduated with a Bachelor of Information Technology degree having taken the Tonga Institute of Higher Education (TIHE) and the Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS) pathway.
My name is Semisi Mavaetangi and I am from Tonga. I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) from Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS) after completing Form 7 (from Tonga College) and the Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) with the Tonga Institute of Higher Education (TIHE).
“I have just been recruited to work as an IT Administrator for the Telecommunication company, Digicel. My job is to monitor users and internet usage of our customers. Database, Server Admin and Information Security are the most useful modules that are applicable to the job in my field.” – Semisi said.
In Tonga, a popular degree pathway for school leavers is through the TIHE/AIS pathway where Form 7 school leavers take the one year TIHE Diploma either in Business, Accounting, Information Technology, Tourism Management or Hospitality Management and then continue onto the AIS degree pathway in Auckland. Normally the graduates from TIHE who have done 9 to 12 courses would only take one and a half years or one year to complete the pathway for degree completion. A degree qualification through this affordable and accessible pathway ensures a job either in New Zealand or in Tonga upon graduation.
Semisi Mavaetangi’s Bachelor of Information Technology degree will be officially conferred at the TIHE annual graduation, Wednesday 6th of December 2017 at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall, Nuku’alofa. The graduation Royal Guest of Honour is Her Majesty Queen NanasiPau’u. Also in attendance will be the AIS President – Dr Julia Hennessy.
Best Wishes for your future journey.
