Firza Utama is from Indonesia. After nine years living and working in Japan (after Indonesia), Firza migrated to New Zealand and enrolled in Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology Programme (PGDIT) at AIS.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology (PGDIT) is a level 8 programme that has been designed to fill the global skills shortage that has been recognised in the IT sector.

We had the chance for a quick interview with Firza during orientation at AIS’s May intake.

Firza Utama is from Indonesia and enrolled in PGDIT at AIS.

Why did you choose New Zealand to come to study?

I chose New Zealand because it is a much calmer and greener country than where I was. I have always lived in big cities and now I want to experience something different. I think New Zealand has a much better quality of life.

How did you find information about PGDIT programme at AIS?

I wanted a programme starting as soon as possible. After searching and discussing with my education agency, ICAN, they showed me the PGDIT programme at AIS. I was very happy because it matched my expectations and I didn’t have to wait to start my journey.

My application to AIS was processed quickly. I felt really welcomed with their approach.

“I.T. professionals have many opportunities to grow in New Zealand because it is on the shortage skill list.”

What experience do you have in I.T. and what do you expect from this programme?

Having worked in Indonesia and Japan for a long time in the field of architecture, I have used I.T. a lot in my work. I am very familiar with a variety of software and its applications.

I hope to enhance my skills and knowledge of the I.T. industry through field visits and internship to also gain local New Zealand work experience. That is vital step to employment in the industry.

What do you think of the I.T. industry in New Zealand?

I think I.T. professionals have many opportunities to grow in New Zealand because it is on the shortage skill list.

Thanks Firza for a great interview!
