What can you do with a Graduate Diploma in Business?
Update: 14 November 2017
Getting a graduate diploma in business is one of the most fulfilling things you can do in higher education. Not only will you learn a great deal about the world around you and how it works, but you’ll open a lot of doors career-wise.
After studying business, you can go just about anywhere and do just about anything.
Studying business gives you an extraordinary level of career flexibility. You can go just about anywhere and do just about anything. Some people struggle after completing their studies because they can’t find a job in the specific field they’re focussed on – if anything, you’ll have the opposite problem in international business. There will be too many options, making it difficult to choose just one.
So how will you find your calling in business, and how will you develop your career over time? These are the crucial questions to figure out.
A range of career opportunities
Because business is such a broad career field, getting a degree should lead to a wide range of possible job opportunities after you graduate. Just consider the fields you could get into:
- Marketing: If you have a good understanding of international markets, you can use your insights to help companies brand themselves and reach a new base of consumers.
- Finance: As an international business expert, you may well be able to help companies map out financial strategies that take the full scope of the world economy into account.
- HR management: What are the latest trends in talent? Where do you find great people, and how do you manage them? There’s always demand for people who can answer these questions.
The options don’t end there. You could go into operations, or sales, or public relations. Rather than trying to find an existing job, you could start your own business. If you have the right degree, really anything is possible.
Aspiring to slow and steady growth
Of course, there’s no guarantee that getting a business degree will put you in position to achieve success right away. It will take hard work to build your career from the ground up. If you’re dedicated to career planning, things will eventually work out, but your growth might be slow at first.
As for pay scale, the average graduate with a business and management degree earns $50,133 within one year of completing his or her studies. Within two years, that figure goes up to $57,508, and within five years, it’s $66,485. The longer you keep at it, the more promising your career will be.To give you an idea of your prospects, Careers NZ reported that 76 per cent of New Zealanders who graduate with a degree in business are employed in the field within two years.
